From 1961-2001, Paxton was home to what was dubbed "The World's Largest Community Sale", attracting hundreds of vendors and buyers and thousands of spectators from throughout central Illinois.

Sponsored by the Lions Club, the sale stretched from one end of Market Street to the other for a day-long extravaganza each spring that was part farm show, part auction, and part garage sale.
