Did you know?

The town was initially named Prairie City in the late 1840s, then Prospect City by an Illinois Central Railroad official in 1855.

In 1859, it was renamed for Sir Joseph Paxton, architect of the Crystal Palace, who was a major shareholder in the Illinois Central Railroad, which in 1856 was the longest span of railroad in the world (Chicago to Cairo).

Founded in 1859, Paxton celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2009.

The construction of a room on the south side of the Paxton Civic Center that will be the new home of the Paxton Community Nursery School is making some progress.

The Paxton Park District board voted 6-1 at a special meeting Thursday to allow the Paxton Community Nursery School to hold its classes on park district grounds next school year,

The Paxton Community Sale, presented by the Paxton Park District, is scheduled for April 7 at 10 a.m. It will be held at Coady Park off of Stockholm and Fall streets.
